ATO highlights support for out-of-date lodgments and payments

The ATO has issued a reminder to those who have clients currently not up to date with their lodgment and payment obligations.

The Tax Office said the new year is a good opportunity to check in with clients, noting that “if you find some are not up to date with their lodgment and payment obligations, there is help available”.


“The following information may assist as you work with your clients to assess their current position. It’s important for your clients to bring all lodgments up to date and pay what they can,” the ATO said.

“If you have a client that cannot pay in full, there are payment options available. If your client owes $100,000 or less you can set up or adjust payment plans on their behalf via Online services for agents.

“Your client can also: set up or adjust an existing payment plan using online services; [or] phone the automated service 13 28 65 (individuals) or 13 72 26 (businesses) if unable to go online to set up a payment plan.”

For clients who owe over $100,000, the ATO said they will need to discuss their options by phoning the office on 13 11 42 during operating hours.

“It's important that your clients understand the consequences of not lodging or paying,” the ATO added.

“With our lodge and pay engagement and enforcement actions recommencing, the best way to help your clients, is to help raise awareness of potential consequences of choosing not to engage with us.”
