BDO said Mr Borchi is a significant hire and brings a wealth of public sector and healthcare industry expertise, particularly after holding the position of chief information security officer at Queensland Health for the past two years.

According to the firm, during his 26-year career, Mr Borchi has held key leadership roles at a range of federal government departments and in recent years acted as the cyber consulting lead at some of Australia’s largest defence contractors.

Prior to Queensland Health, he was managing director at Borchi Group, and was previously regional manager at BAE Systems and director at CERT Australia.

Brisbane office managing partner Steven Sorbello said the firm has seen an increased demand for cyber security services this year as organisations adjust to their staff working from home and make plans to adapt to new digital ways of working in the post-COVID world.

“John brings extensive knowledge of the healthcare sector and the specific cyber challenges these types of organisations face, both public and private. Healthcare is a growth sector for BDO and we look forward to offering John’s extensive expertise to our existing and new clients to help them tackle what lies ahead,” Mr Sorbello said.

“John has broad experience in intelligence and cyber investigations and the challenges Australia and our region is facing within the increased interconnected digital world.

“He will work closely with our national cyber security leader, Leon Fouche, to ensure our clients proactively assess and enhance their cyber posture so they can effectively manage the cyber security challenges posed by an increasingly digital world.”
